EYFS Curriculum
Welcome to our EYFS curriculum page! Our vibrant, purposeful and stimulating learning environment provides your child with plentiful opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in a safe, secure and nurturing way. Please read below for information about the incredible learning we do in the Early Years Foundation Stage!
In Nursery and Reception, we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage issued by the Department for Education (2021). The curriculum consists of seven areas of learning:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
- Physical Development.
- Communication and Language.
- Literacy.
- Mathematics.
- Understanding the World.
- Expressive Arts and Design.
There are then 17 Early Learning Goals (ELGs) which are part of these areas of learning. If a child achieves these goals by the end of the Reception year then they are said to be working at the expected level. To support children with working towards these ELGs we use a document called Development Matters. This breaks down each goal into different age bands and is used by staff throughout the year to assess how close children are to reaching the goals. Like the rest of the school, we also utilise a thematic approach to learning and the children learn through topics which encompass all seven learning areas of the EYFS curriculum. In EYFS, our curriculum builds links with the Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) National Curriculum and provides children with the skills and knowledge to transition into Year 1 in a seamless and confident fashion.
