Health and Wellbeing
At St Theresa's we are leading the way in promoting awareness of mental health and well-being in children and adults.
Mental health, like physical health is something that we all have and need to take care of. As a school we are committed to supporting the emotional health and well-being of all our staff and pupils.
Our aim is for all pupils in school to develop the self-esteem, resilience and emotional understanding to be able to play an active part in school life, becoming effective and successful learners and friends at St Theresa's and in their future lives. Our intention is to promote positive emotional health and mental well-being across the whole school community, as well as every staff member. In addition to promoting positive mental health, we aim to recognise and respond to mental ill health, as well as increasing understanding and awareness of common mental health issues.
Each Half term the children participate in a well-being Wednesday activity. This ranges from yoga sessions to mindfullness sessions and lots more.
Oldham Council Support and Resources
The Oldham whole school and college approach to emotional health and mental wellbeing aims to promote social, emotional and mental wellbeing.
The framework offers practical guidance to schools and colleges to develop knowledge and skills to promote mental health and wellbeing and prevent minor problems from escalating into more serious long-term issues.
The document contains key actions that head teachers and college principles can take to embed the whole school approach to emotional health and mental wellbeing.
The actions are based on the eight principles.
These are:
- The school ethos and environment
- Curriculum, teaching and learning
- Student voice
- Staff development, health and wellbeing
- Identifying need and monitoring impact
- Working with parents / carers
- Targeted support
