Year 5 are part of Upper Key Stage Two and are taught by Miss S White (covering the maternity leave of Mrs A Hawkins) and Mrs Worthington.
Below, you will find some important information for Year 5
Key information
School starts at 8:50am
School Finishes at 3:20pm
As soon as the children come into class our work begins so please make sure they arrive on time then they do not miss out on valuable learning time.
Reading
We ask that all children are listened to when reading at home. 5 minutes a day can make such a massive difference to their reading fluency and confidence.
The children bring home a reading book that is on the correct book band for them along with a yellow reading record book. Please can you sign this yellow book to show that they have read with you at home and jot down the pages that they have read. The children are not expected to read a whole book ever time - a couple of pages regularly is fine. Once this is returned to school, the book will then be change. Book bands are regularly reviewed.
If a book is lost then there will be a £5 charge.
Spelling
Spellings are given out on a Friday and are practised each morning and then tested on a Friday. A set of the spellings are sent home on a Friday to so they can be practised at home. Each week we look at a different spelling rule and the spellings that are given out link to that rule.
This term, we are focusing on the Year 5/6 National Curriculum spellings that the children are expected to be able to read, spell and use in their writing by the end of Year 4.
Please click on the link below for a copy of the Y5/6 National Curriculum spellings list.

Times Tables
By Year 5, children should know their times tables up to X 12, but it is very important that they still practice them frequently.
Please help your child to learn them of by heart and practice them regularly. As a school, we use TT Rock Stars and a link can be found on the Children's menu tab. Click on this and it will take you straight to the login page.
Every child has their own login and password. If you are unsure or your child has forgotten theirs, please let me know.
