Year 4 are part of Lower Key Stage 2 and are taught by Mrs Nash and Miss Kausar.
Below, you will find some important and useful information about Year 4.
Year 4 Key Information
School starts at 8.50am.
As soon as the children come into class our work begins so please make sure they arrive on time then they do not miss out on valuable learning time.
Reading
It is an expectation that children are listened to when reading at home. 5 minutes a day can make such a massive difference to their reading fluency and their confidence.
The children bring home a reading book that is on the correct book band for them along with a yellow reading record book. Please can you sign this yellow book to show that they have read with you at home and jot down the pages that they have read. The children are not expected to read a whole book ever time - a couple of pages regularly is fine. Once this is returned to school every Wednesday, the book will then be change if needed. Book bands are regularly reviewed.
If a book is lost then there will be a £5 charge.
Forgot to take your book home from school?
Here you will find a guide that will give you some ideas to help your child with their reading . This guide is designed to give all parents a clear understanding of how our reading scheme (Bug Club) progresses throughout our school.

Spelling
Spellings are given out on a Monday and are practised each morning and then tested on a Friday. A set of the spellings are sent home on a Monday to so they can be practised at home. Each week we look at a different spelling rule and some of the expected words for year 3/4. The spellings that are given out link to that rule.

Times Tables
It is expected that children know all the times tables up to X 12 by the end of Year 4 . Once your child knows their times tables it helps with many areas of Maths and will also help speed up their mental calculations. Every week we will look at a different times table, they will be sent out on a Monday with the spellings to practice for the time table test on Friday.
Please help your child to learn them of by heart and practice them regularly. As a school, we use TT Rock Stars and a link can be found on the Children's menu tab. Click on this and it will take you straight to the login page.
Every child has their own login and password. If you are unsure or your child has forgotten theirs, please let me know.
This year, Year 4 will be completing the Multiplication Check in the Summer term. We will be holding a meeting in school to tell you more about it.
By practising the 'Sound Check' on TT Rock Stars , it will really help your child prepare for this check, develop confidence and speed.
Below is a link to a website with an example of the test for the children to practice.
