Welcome to Year 1! We are very excited to welcome you to our class page! Here you will find important information about our wonderful learning and important information about reading books and P.E. The Year 1 class teacher is Mr Eliot and the Year 1 Teaching Assistants are Miss Chapman (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and Mrs Dawes (Thursday, Friday). Key information

Our P.E Lesson takes place every Thursday at 1:15. Children can leave their P.E kit in school and it can be taken home at the end of each half-term to be cleaned. Please ensure all P.E kit is labelled clearly with your child's name. P.E kit consists of a white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps/trainers. 

 Home Learning

Maths and English Home Learning will be sent home every Friday, alongside spellings.  The home learning will extend and consolidate the learning that the children have completed in class during the week. At this young age, parents may find it beneficial to support the children during the activities. Home learning should be returned to school the following Tuesday to be marked. Please speak to the class teacher if you have any concerns or questions regarding home learning. 

Reading

Children in Year 1 will bring home a reading book every day. Please ensure that you read with your child every day. Education Endowment Foundation research into reading strongly suggests that children enjoy a significantly higher rate of progression and achievement when they read daily. You can record any comments on your child's reading in their yellow reading record.
Reading books will be changed every Friday. Books MUST be returned on a Wednesday so that we can change everyone's book before a new one is sent home on Friday.
The books children bring home will directly correlate with the phonemes/words they have been learning in previous phonics sessions. In addition to a book, children will also be allocated an online eBook on the Pearson Bug Club website. Please see your child's teacher for login details.
